Dr. Steven Manos

Steven Manos was appointed the head of Research Computing at the University of Melbourne in January 2010, previously doing post-doctoral research at University College London. There he used an automated robot and genetic computing to automatically design and fabricate ceramics. He also helped develop tools that neurosurgeons could use to visualize the flow of blood through patient’s brains while they were in the operating theatre. Now, within Information Technology Services at Melbourne, he is responsible for developing research computing which relates to all disciplines, from the humanities and arts, through to physical sciences and medical research. He has overall responsibility for high-performance computing, cloud computing, data storage and data management. His mission is to help researchers use IT in new and innovative ways, as well as making IT dead easy to use within research.
